Is it necessary to apply for permission to enter mountain areas of the Taroko National Park?

1. Open Areas: Along both sides of the Central Cross-Island Highway and the Su-hua Highway (within 50m), visitors are not required to apply for entry permits.
2. Frequently Restricted Mountain Areas: This includes the areas apart from each side of the Central Cross-Island Highway and Su-hua Highway (50m). Specifically, restrictions on entering some mountain areas, such as the Shakadang Trail, the Changchun (Eternal Spring) Shrine Trail, the Buluowan Trail and recreation areas, the Tiansiang-Huoran Pavilion Trail, the Baiyang Trail, the Lianhua Pond Trail, Hehuan E. Peak, Mt. Shihmen and Mt. Hehuan and the areas along both sides of Central Cross-Island Highway and Su-hua Highway (within 50m) have been withdrawn.
3. How to apply for a Mountain Entry Permit :
(1) Fill out the to 'Entry to Restricted Mountain Areas' Application Form .
(2) Registration Application for Entry to Restricted Mountain Areas (Entry to Ecological Conservation Area Application Form), Mountain Trip Plan and Route Map.
(3) ID of each applicant, one copy (for foreigners, a passport or a copy of the residence permit is required).
(4) Entry Permit Fees: NT $10 per person (extra NT $10 from other counties/cities). Make Check out to: National Parks Police Corps Taroko Police.
Note: If you are applying to enter a mountain area through another police office, the check title should include the full name of the police office, such as “National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior,” “Nantou County Police Headquarters Renai Precinct,” “Hualien County Police Headquarters Shincheng Precinct,” “Taichung County Police Headquarters Heping Precinct”.
(5) A medium or large stamped self-addressed envelope.

(1) Nanhu Mountain Area: National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior, Taroko National Park Police, Taichung County Police Headquarters Heping Precinct.
(2) Cilai Mountain Area: National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior, Taroko National Park Police, Nantou County Police Headquarters Renai Precinct.
(3) Hehuan Mountain Area: National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior, Taroko National Park Police, Taichung County Police Headquarters Heping Precinct.
(4) Cingshui Mountain Area: National Police Agency of the Ministry of Interior, Taroko National Park Police, Hualien County Police Headquarters Shincheng Precinct .
