1. Purpose and Date of Establishment:
Taroko National Park Headquarters, affiliated to the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of Interior, was established on Nov. 28, 1986 for the purposes of recreation, research, education and the conservation of the natural ecology.
2. Park Location and Area:
Taroko National Park, covers 92,000 hectares straddling the borders of Hualien, Taichung and Nantou Counties, including the length of Liwu River Gorge, the Central Cross-Island Highway (Hwy. No.8) and the surrounding mountainous area, including Hehuan Mountain, Cilai Mountain, Nanhu Jhongyangjian Mountain, Cingshui Cliff, and the watersheds of the Liwu and Sanjhan Rivers.
