Police Uniforms Act

Article 1     The police uniforms shall be governed by this Act.
 
Article 2     The police uniforms are classified as ceremonial uniform, standard uniform, and working uniform. Incumbent police shall follow requirements herein.
 
Article 3    The police shall wear the ceremonial uniform on the following occasions:
1. Attending national ceremonies and banquets or those of countries with diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
2. Meeting with the president or head of state with diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
3. Officially visiting or paying return visits to officials or officers from countries with diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
4. Attending important police ceremonies or parade inspection.
            On the occasion of which prescribed in subparagraph 4 of the preceding paragraph, the standard uniform also can be worn in lieu of the ceremonial uniform.
 
Article 4    The police may wear the working uniform while performing routine duties and attending assemblies, unless the standard uniform is considered more appropriate to wear. For the needs of a mission, the police, however, are not required to wear the uniform.  
            When wearing the uniform in accordance with the requirements in the preceding paragraph, the police may add an overcoat or raincoat if it’s cold or it rains.
 
Article 5    The types of uniform and badges that the police shall wear are prescribed as the attached instructions herein this article.
           The uniforms and badges prescribed in the preceding paragraph are purchased and distributed by the police authorities at the departmental level.
 
Police Uniform Instructions
A Descriptions of Police Ceremonial Uniform
   When wearing a ceremonial uniform, the following accessories should be worn on the standard uniform refer to attached figure 1):
1. Uniform Cord: Shall be braided with a golden cord, to which three strings are attached. its right end is put around the right arm and its left end is tied to the top button under the lapel.
2. Gloves: Shall be white.
 
BDescriptions of Police Standard Uniform
1. Color: Dark blue (refer to attached figure 2).
2. Cap: Peaked cap with the same color and textile as the clothing (refer to attached figure 16). Its accessories should be made according to the following specifications:
  (1) Hat badge: Shall be 7cm high and 5.5cm wide; with the black shape of a shield as the base and police insignia embedded in the center (refer to attached Figure 16).
  (2) Crown and visor: The crown shall be 6cm high with a black brim and surrounded with 1cm-wide golden string. The visor shall be black and embroidered with ears of rice. (refer to attached Figure 16) The golden stripe count on the crown and the number of ears of golden rice embroidered on the visor are the same as the golden bars on the rank insignia. If necessary, other types of decoration on the crown and visor may be adopted and shall be regulated by the Ministry of the Interior.
  (3) Strap: Shall be 1.5cm-wide, and decorated with one small golden plum blossom-shaped button on each end. (refer to attached figure 16).
3. Top : Shall be a coat with turndown cross collar and golden buttons (refer to attached figure 2).
4. Bottom: Shall be trousers without cuffs (refer to attached figure 2).
5. Shirt: Shall be light purple-white (see attached figure 15).
6. Tie: Shall be dark blue.
7. Collar insignia: Shall be the shape of a flying golden dove, with approximately 2 by 2.5cm in dimension, and shall be pinned on the right and left collar ends (refer to attached figure 18).
8. Rank insignia:
 (1) The rank insignia shall be 7cm long and 2cm wide with black surface on which golden bars and stars are marked, and shall be worn above the right breast pocket. If necessary, other patterns of the rank insignia may be adopted instead.
 (2) The number of golden bars and stars and other patterns of the rank insignia for each official rank shall be regulated by the Ministry of the Interior.
9. Patch: Shall be red and shield-shaped, on which agency’s name is embroidered with the white-text (refer to attached figure 18).
10. Shoes: Shall be black.
11. Socks: Shall be dark blue.
12.Belt: Shall be dark blue.
 
CDescriptions of Police Working Uniform
 
1. The top shall be light purple-white in summer and dark blue in winter; the remaining items shall be the same as the requirements for the standard uniform.
2. Cap: Shall be the same as that prescribed in the police standard uniform.
3. Top:
 (1) Winter: Jacket-style with turndown collar, golden buttons , and a light purple-white shirt with a tie (refer to attached figure 3).
 (2) Styles A and B for summer are as follows:
   A. Style A: Long-sleeve, the same as the shirt (refer to attached figure 4).
   B. Style B: The same as Style A, except the top is short-sleeve. (refer to attached figure 5).
4. Bottom: Shall be the same as the police standard uniform in both winter and summer.
5. Tie: Shall be the same as that prescribed in the police standard uniform. While wearing the working uniform in summer, the police officers are not required to wear a tie and button the top button of the shirt.
6. Collar insignia, rank insignia, patch, shoes, socks, and belt : Shall be the same as those of the police standard uniform.
 
 DDescriptions of Female Police
1. Color: Shall be the same as the police ceremonial uniform for male police (refer to attached figure 6).
2. Cap: Shall be the same as the female police standard uniform (refer to attached figure 16).
3. Top: Shall be a coat with a turndown collar, golden buttons, and a rank stripe is embroidered 6cm above each cuff (refer to attached figure 6).
4. Bottom: Shall be a straight skirt falling wider to the hem with a 16 cm slit in the back (refer to attached figure 6).
5. Shirt: Shall be light purple-white.
6. Tie, collar insignia and patch: Shall be the same as those on the police standard uniform for men.
7. Shoes: Shall be black.
8. Socks: Shall be beige lady’s stockings.
9. Glove: Shall be white.
 
EDescriptions of Female Police Standard Uniform
1. Color: Shall be the same as the male police ceremonial uniform (refer to attached figures 7 and 8).
2. Cap: Shall be dark blue (refer to attached figure 17). Its accessories should be made according to the following specifications:
 (1) Hat Badge: Shall be 7cm high and 5.5cm wide, with the black shape of a shield as the base and police insignia embedded in the center (refer to attached figure 17).
 (2) Crown and visor: The front crown shall be 3.2 cm high with date red brim. The visor shall be black, embroidered with ears of golden rice (refer to attached figure 17). The number of ears of golden rice on the visor are the same as the golden bars on the rank insignia .If necessary, other types of decoration on the visor may be adopted and shall be regulated by the Ministry of the Interior.
 (3) Strap : Shall be 1.2 cm-wide, with one small golden plum blossom-shaped button on each end. (refer to attached figure 17).
3. Top : Shall be a coat with turndown cross collar and golden buttons in both winter and summer (refer to attached figures 7 and 8).
4. Bottom: Shall be culottes in proper length in summer and trousers without cuffs in winter (refer to attached figure 7 and 8).
5. Shirt: Shall be light purple-white.
6. Tie, collar insignia, rank insignia, patch: Shall be the same as those on the male police standard uniform.
7. Shoes: Shall be black.
8. Socks: Shall be beige lady’s stockings.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
 
FDescriptions of Female Police Working Uniform
1. Color: Shall be the same as the male police working uniform (refer to attached figures 9, 10, and 11).
2. Cap : Shall be the same as the female police standard uniform .
3. Top:
 (1) Winter: Jacket-style with a turndown collar, golden buttons, and a light purple-white shirt with a tie (refer to attached figure 9).
 (2) Styles A and B for summer as follows:
      A. Style A: Long-sleeve, the same as the shirt (refer to attached figure 10).
      B. Style B: The same as Style A, except the top is short-sleeve. ( refer to attached figure 11)
4. Bottom: Shall be the same as the female police standard uniform .
5. Collar insignia, rank insignia, patch, shoes, socks: Shall be the same as those on the female police standard uniform .
 
GDescriptions of Police Overcoat
1. Color: Shall be dark blue.
2. Style:
 (1) Men: Turndown-style with golden buttons, tilt pockets, with a slit in the lower back (refer to attached figure 12). In non-chilly areas, short overcoats can be worn instead, which style shall be the same as the long overcoat (refer to attached figure 13).
 (2) Women: Turndown-style with golden buttons, tilt pockets, with a slit in the lower back (refer to attached figure 14).
 
Article 6        The uniforms and badges for civilians at police organizations, trainees and students at Central Police University and Taiwan Police College, police honor guards, police bands and special operational staff; the raincoat and rain shoes for incumbent police and the dress code for special operation are regulated by the Ministry of the Interior.
 
Article 7   The date to change seasonal police uniform shall be announced by National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior, based on the season and climate in different areas.
 
Article 8     This Act shall come into force from the date of promulgation.
