Surveying instruments are regularly calibrated to ensure the quality of surveying results
Surveying is the basis for determining the boundary, and it also is the fundamental to promote national construction. The results of the survey are related to the people’s land property rights, and its quality depends on the quality of the measuring instruments. The National Land Surveying and Mapping Center, Ministry of the Interior (NLSC) has established the Surveying Instrument Calibration Laboratory (SICL) and has been providing calibration services for surveying instruments since 2012, including Total Station, Theodolite, GPS, Airborne Photogrammetry Camera, Light Detection and Ranging and Small Format Airborne Camera. The amount of instrument calibrations from 172 in 2012 to 434 in 2019, increased by 1.5 times. This shows that each government office and surveying company has paid more attention to the calibration of surveying instruments, and has implemented it in the content of various operation specifications. For more information about calibration services, you can browse the Service Web (https://sicl.nlsc.gov.tw/).

Border Interview Cases of People from Mainland China as Spouse of R.O.C. Citizens
If one from Mainland China married to an R.O.C. citizen, before their first entry to Taiwan, an application for marriage interview to the National Immigration Agency is needed. Once arrived at Taiwan’s border (airports or seaports), both of them shall be interviewed separately by immigration officers. The officers will carefully consider the statements from both sides to determine the relationship genuine or not. If there is some discrepancy between their two descriptions, the applicants will be denied or undergo a second interview after their entry. In 2012, the overall applications reached 10,283 cases, while 86.9% of the applicants (8,936 cases) passed at border interview. Last year (2019), the numbers had declined to 5,032 cases with 91.3% (4,592 cases) passed at border. It shows that the tendency of marriage between citizens and people from Mainland China has been decreased greatly, and the numbers of fake marriage also drop during these years.
