Taiwan’s Search and Rescue Team Ready for Rescue Efforts for China’s Sichuan Hit by 6.8-Magnitude Earthquake

On September 5, 2022, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted Sichuan, China. The special rescue squad of National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior immediately completed preparations for the international humanitarian relief mission to relieve the victims of the natural disaster. On September 6, the squad assembled 40 search and rescue workers, 1 search and rescue dog, and 5 tons of search and rescue equipment on a chartered airplane for the international humanitarian relief mission. The speed of the squad responding to international disasters anytime shows Taiwan’s soft power of rescue relief.

 

On September 5 at 12: 52PM, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale hit Luding County, Sichuan Province, China. At least 46 people were reported killed, and 16 people missing in the strong earthquake. The casualties from the catastrophic earthquake continue to climb. National Fire Agency, Ministry of the Interior instantly commanded members of the special rescue squad to prepare for the humanitarian relief mission. Additionally, the agency contacted Disaster Relief Foundation to arrange a chartered airplane to launch the search and rescue mechanism. Once the squad receives instructions from Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Mainland Affairs Council, they will immediately take the chartered airplane to rush to the rescue, trying their best to rescue trapped victims.
