After seeing emergency responders’ great performance in rescuing patients in the Taroko Express train derailment accident occurred on April 2, 2021, Disaster World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce (WTCC) immediately raised NTD1.6 million and donated it to the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) funds of the firefighting rescue unit. Minister of the Interior Hsu Kuo-yung said that WTCC is the gentlest backing force for the entire nation’s emergency responders; and emergency responders also praised WTCCJC for being the strongest support.

In view of the lack of the National Fire Agency (NFA) training center and special search and rescue teams’ (SSRTs) equipment, WTCC has continued the philanthropic act of this gentle power and successfully raised NTD2.8 million. This amount was used to purchase thermal imagers and earthquake pressure sensors for the use of NFA training and disaster relief missions. Hosted by Director-General Hsiao of NFA, Ministry of the Interior, the donation ceremony was taken place on July 18, 2022; and NFA also gifted a gratitude plaque to WTCC to express its gratitude to WTCC’s selfless contribution.

“The government has limited power and the private sector has limitless resources.” Many works require collaboration among all sectors in order to maximize the benefits regardless of the limited manpower and resources. It is especially so for relief works of major disasters because not only such accidents are often unpredictable, but also the real-time rescue works, distribution of resources, settlement of victims and psychological support thereto require the collaboration between the private sector and government. Only the collaboration among all sectors can better protect our homeland, lives and assets.
