Meanwhile, Keelung City Service Center also visit Mr. Zhuang, a new resident from Malaysia. He and his spouse Ms. Xu fell in love with each other in Australia. After they marriaged, Mr. Zhuang chose to stay in Taiwan. Now, he and his wife have a daughter and he is glad to share his life and experience of entrepreneurship in Taiwan.

Zhao-li Mao, the director of Keelung City Service Center, said that many new residents don’t have much knowledge about laws and regulations because of language barriers. Thus, they may lose the opportunity to protect their rights.

The Keelung City Service Center holds a family education and legal course for new immigrants monthly. In addition, through the assistance of the Legal Aid Foundation, the new residents can have more relevant legal knowledge and rights.

In order to continuously improve the relevant laws and regulations for foreigners, the government has made substantial revisions on the new Immigration Act, which will effect on January 1 and March 1, 2024 respectively.

If you have any questions about the revision of the law, you can visit the National Immigration Agency’s global website (website: https://www.immigration.gov.tw/) or call our Service Center.
