2021 Homeland Security Academic Seminar - the Exchange of Theory and Practice

Mr. Brian SHEROTA and Mr. Jay HUANG, the representatives from National Security Agency of United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), visited President Chen Che-wen and attended the academic exchange seminar on November 3, 2021 at 3 p.m. The Homeland Security Academic Seminar was arranged by Department of Border Police.

Professors at CPU in the related fields were also invited to the seminar. Associate Professor and the Director of the library Tsai Ting-rong, Director of Department of Border Police Hsu I-bao, Associate Professor Wang Zheng, Associate Professor Zhang Wei-rong and Assistant Professor Lin Ying-jun participated in the seminar.

After the opening ceremony, Mr. Jay Huang introduced the professional work at DHS and its current status in the area of law enforcement, following by the discussion and communication.

The major discussion included:
1. The types of the cases DHS investigate.
2. How does DHS recruit and train the professionals?
3. The main point of the investigation in illegal behaviors between USA and Taiwan?
4. How do USA and Taiwan cooperate towards a common end?

As for the qualified professionals at DHS, they are recruited from multiple fields, but DHS has usually encouraged the entry-level staffs to investigate cases which are related to their background. DHS also offers on-the-job trainings in the practical units, such as learning in the museum for ones who investigating the antique cases; learning in the banks for the ones who investigating economic and financial crimes.

All had benefited a great deal from this seminar and hoped to have more opportunities to cooperate and communicate in the future. After the seminar, they were invited to tour around the campus and World Police Museum. It was highly praised for the beauty of the environment and the plentiful collections.
