In order to comply the newest National Geographic Information System (NGIS) policies of National Development Council, the 3D road models have been built since 2020 by the National Land Surveying and Mapping Center (NLSC) to upgrade the 2D national map to 3D. The 3D road models were constructed by the latest street maps from Taiwan e-Map and digital terrain model (DTM). The attributes include road centerlines extracted from the Taiwan e-Map, and road section codes formulated by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). In 2022, for more applications, new 3D road centerlines and 3D intersection points are released. The elevation information also refer to road as-built drawings or the measurements of mobile survey vehicles and aerial stereo mapping. For more information of updating scopes of each year and limitations of 3D road model, please refer to Taiwan 3D Map Service website. In 2023, the 3D road models of 8,569 km (model length: 9,540 km) were completed for roads above the street level, covering Keelung City, TaipeiCity, New Taipei City, Miaoli County and Taitung County, and roads below the alley level covering Central District and Shalu Districtin Taichung City. The aforementioned physical data can be applied for free. The 3D road polygons are available for browsing on Taiwan 3D Map Service website and the web service (OGC I3S and 3D Tiles format only) will not be accessible until the 30th of May 2024.
