Implementation Regulations for Covering a Coffin with the National Flag

Article 1
These regulations shall be applicable for covering a coffin of a citizen of the Republic of China that honors and does not humiliate the nation and national honor during his or her lifetime with the national flag after his or her death. For soldiers, other regulations may apply.

Article 2
If incumbent and former presidents or vice presidents die, their coffins shall be covered with the national flag.

Article 3
The coffins of the following deceased shall be covered with the national flag. 
(1)Individuals that made significant contributions to the nation and society during their lifetime and for which the president appoints a funeral service official by formal decree after their death. 
(2)Individuals granted with the orders during their lifetime according to the order regulation 
(3)Individuals granted a meritorious service medal and model medal during their lifetime according to the medal award act
(4)Individuals praised and commended during their lifetime according to the Praise and Commendation Act
(5)Individuals venerated in a martyrs’ shrine according to the Martyrs' Shrine Act.

Article 4
The coffins of the following individuals shall be covered with the national flag after the family dependents make an application to the Ministry of the Interior for approval together with the relevant documentary evidence: 
(1)Individuals who died in the line of duty or justice, which is proven by the competent authorities of central business. 
(2)Individuals who made special contributions in the professional field, which is proven by the competent authorities of central business.

Article 5
The coffin shall be covered with the national flag according to the identity and class of the deceased.

Article 6
The specifications for the national flag covering a coffin shall meet Item 7 of the size tables for various national flags specified in the National Emblem and Flag Law of the Republic of China.

Article 7
The national flag covering the coffin shall not touch the ground.

Article 8
The blue sky and bright sun of the national flag shall be placed on the right front of the coffin. 
The location of the national flag on the coffin is shown in Figure 1.

Article 9
Before burial, the individuals lifting the coffin shall horizontally hold and fold the national flag, and the national flag shall be provided to the family dependents of the deceased for storage. 
Figures 2 and 3 show the national flag folding method before and after coverage.

Article 10
If the coffin of a deceased foreigner is to be covered with the national flag, these regulations shall apply.
