The Seminar on "Toward Carbon Zero Emission – Research on Fire Proofed Wooden and Bamboo Construction and Its Application" held by the Architecture and Building Research Institute, MOI

In Taiwan, in order to archive net-zero carbon emission for 85% of the total buildings by 2050, related policy has been released on March, 30, 2022. Low-carbon construction, prefabrication, and application of the green and sustainable materials are encouraged and promoted. Among all, green building and its sustainability are the keys to achieve carbon zero emission in the construction sector, especially using wood and bamboo as the major construction materials. In order to clarify the impact and potential possibility of how green materials can be applied in the buildings, especially the behavior under fire, researches and experiments related on fire proofed wooden and bamboo components, such as CLT (Cross Laminated Timber), Glulam, and Local Bamboo products, have been carried out, and their applications have been examined. In this conference, five research reports were presented, the research topics were comprehensive and covered fire behavior of wood and bamboo as the construction material, which complied with the current policy, regarding how to adopt sustainable materials to achieve low carbon emission construction in the future.
Totally, more than 110 audiences, including researchers, Architects, and Engineers, participated in the conference, and it was demonstrated the potential application of using CLT as floors or walls in the buildings with consisting of concrete columns and beams as major structures, providing the reliable hybrid structure system for designers to achieve sustainability and low-carbon construction successfully.
