A country’s international traveler flow of entry and exit is closely related to globalization, economy and tourism. Looking at the number of Taiwan nationals going abroad before the COVID-19 epidemic, both males and females increased year by year. In 2014, males went abroad more than females; however, compared with 35.15% of male's increase from 6,188,931 in 2014 to 8,364,428 in 2019, the number of females increased from 5,655,704 to 8,736,907, an increase of 54.48%, shows the number of women in cross-border movement or migration has surpassed that of men since 2017.

Being affected by the COVID-19 epidemic from 2020 to 2022, the number of Taiwan nationals going abroad dropped sharply. With the easing of border control at the end of 2022, the number of Taiwan nationals going abroad, in the first half of 2023, has grown to 2,609,422 females and 2,315,529 males, and now is gradually recovering to the level of the past.
