The changing trend of losing R.O.C. nationality in the past 20 years

If R.O.C. nationals want to acquire foreign nationality, they may apply for loss of nationality under relevant conditions are met with R.O.C. nationality Act, and subject to approval of the Ministry of Interior. The point is that they should apply for loss nationality in personal and get a permission from the Ministry of Interior, otherwise, even they live abroad for a long time, they will not lose R.O.C. nationality.

To look back the number of people who lost R.O.C. nationality in the past 20 years, those acquired Japanese nationality and applied for loss of nationality, the total number is decreased from 479 in 1992 to 290 in 2021; those who acquired Korean nationality gradually increased from 103 in 1990 to 295 in 2021; those acquired Singaporean nationality increased from 95 in 1990 to 211 in 2021. And those obtained Vietnamese and Philippine nationalities, from 0 in 1990, gradually grew to 16 and 10 in 2021 respectively. Obviously, according to the world trend development of modern globalization in recent years, national boundaries have blurred. Subsequently, between countries’ cultural, transportation, and economic exchanges have been close, those people who were applying for loss of R.O.C. nationality to acquire foreign nationality gradually diversified.
