Resilience and Perseverance in Adversity - 2024 Presidential Education Award Winners for New Immigrant Children

The National Immigration Agency (NIA), under the leadership of Huang Ling-Yu, Head of the Immigration Affairs Division, hosted a discussion session on July 5 at the Grand Hotel with the recipients of the 2024 Presidential Education Award and their teachers, aiming to recognize and commend these students.

This year, nine children of new immigrants received the award, demonstrating outstanding achievements both academically and in various competitions. Lin Tzu-Yang from Xuejin Elementary School in Wujie Township, Yilan County, transformed his battle with cancer into a positive force by organizing an art exhibition to inspire other children with illnesses. Chang Li-Yun from Pinglin Elementary School in Caotun, Nantou County, won third place in the 11th National Sony Creative Science Awards. Wu Chia-Chien from Jinhu Junior High School in Kinmen has won numerous awards in national-level painting competitions.

Furthermore, Lin Yi-Ting from Shuangxi High School in New Taipei City spotlighted family issues through her documentary "Lin's Courtyard," winning multiple awards, including the "New Taipei Spirit Award" at the New Taipei Student Film Awards. Weng Yu An-Lun from Hsinchu Senior High School, as the president of the school’s astronomy club, led the club to numerous achievements and was twice selected as an Earth Science Olympiad participant. Li Yu-Chun from Dajia Senior High School in Taichung City represented Taiwan in the 2023 Taiwan International Science Fair, winning the Best Cultural Performance Award. Pan Hsing-Chen from Lu Chu Senior High School in Kaohsiung City won multiple gold medals in the National Middle School Athletic Games and the Junior World Weightlifting Championships.

You Kao-Yen from National Central University, a frequent literature award winner, has won the Presidential Education Award twice. Lin Chia-Hui from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology holds nine professional baking certificates and has won numerous domestic baking competitions.

During the event, Huang presented the "2023 Academic Year New Immigrant Children Presidential Education Scholarship" and gifts to the award-winning students. Director Huang expressed her pleasure in seeing more outstanding children of new immigrants and affirmed that the NIA will continue to implement empowerment programs for new immigrants and their children. The NIA will also collaborate with various agencies to promote services for new immigrants, providing opportunities for empowerment and talent development.
