Taiwan Immigration Agency Deported a Spanish Man Suspected of Italian Fraud to Germany, Setting a Precedent for Deporting Felons from the EU

Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate, a Spanish man who committed a fraud case in Italy, was suspected of defrauding up to 30 million euros (approximately NT$1.05 billion) and was listed as an internationally wanted criminal under a red notice by INTERPOL. The Taiwan Immigration Agency said, At noon on October 21, Central European Standard Time, Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate was deported to Germany and Federal Police also immediately arrested the internationally wanted criminal.

The Taiwan Immigration Agency stated that Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate obtained a Taiwan residence permit in 2021 and had been staying in Taiwan for 5 years. Until Italian prosecutors recently indicted the Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate criminal group and Taiwan local media also discovered that he was hiding in downtown Taipei. Later Taiwan's law enforcement agencies decided to send him out of the country.

The Taiwan Immigration Officials pointed out that this case has a great attention from the society, has been measured to endanger Taiwan’s national interests, public safety and order. After coordinating with the Taiwanese Ambassador to Germany and German law enforcement agencies, Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate was deported to Germany as soon as possible for subsequent judicial proceedings by German, Spanish and Italian governments. Taiwan in addition to declaring an entry ban on Salvador Alejandro Llinas Onate, it also completed the first cross-border cooperation between Taiwan and EU law enforcement agencies to jointly deport international felons based on the Taiwan government’s national zero-tolerance policy for fraud cases, and is also based on the INTERPOL Red Notice and the request of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce (Official Representative Office in Taiwan).
