Contribution and stay for Taiwan: Nine high-level professionals become Taiwanese citizens.
At the meeting for evaluation of the application for naturalization of high-level professionals held on February 26, the Ministry of the Interiors (MOI) approved the naturalization of nine high-level professionals, such as Huang from Malaysia specializing in biotech R&D and promoting economic cooperation between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries. Since the National Act amended and implemented since December 21, 2016, a total of 128 high-level professionals have become naturalized citizens without renouncing their original nationality after long-time contribution to Taiwan out of their love for and identification with Taiwan
According to the MOI, these nine new Taiwanese citizens include three from the medical field, two from the economics field, two from the culture and arts field, one from the high-tech field, and one from the education field. Huang from Malaysia is currently the VP and R&D director of a biotech company. Apart from leading its R&D team to engage in biotech R&D and apply for various patents to benefit the development of Taiwan’s biotech industry, Huang has actively assisted with the establishment of the Malaysia-Taiwan Economic Cooperation Committee (MTECC) and Taiwan-ASEAN Trade and Economic Forum and became the vice chairperson of the MTECC to promote Taiwan-Malaysia bilateral economic cooperation, making far-reaching contributions to the international cooperation and economic development between Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
Another Huang from Malaysia is a specialist in osteology and regenerative medicine. He has won “Outstanding Dissertation Award” from the College of Medicine, National Taiwan University; and the first prize at the Taipei Medical University Hospital Orthopedics Joint Academic Paper Competition for his outstanding academic performance. He has successfully invented “Single-stage cartilage repair using platelet rich fibrin scaffolds with autologous cartilaginous graft” earning global recognition to help raise Taiwan’s research in related fields and promote Taiwan’s biomed development.
In addition, Lu from the USA specializes in the technology sales and application development of semiconductor. He was a member of the search for the Higgs boson experiment CMS design team of Peter W. Higgs, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2013. His numerous contributions in related designs have benefited Taiwan’s high-tech R&D.
As a virtuoso “shredding” player, Japanese bass guitarist Goto has won the “Best Composition Award” at the 5th Global Hokkien Singing Competition. Apart from long-term cooperation with leading Taiwanese singers, Goto has participated in the production of the album winning the “Album Of the Year” of the Golden Melody Awards, with outstanding performance in both musical composition and performance.
