MIT Autonomous Vehicle on the Road Incorporating High Definition Map
On October 28th, the MOI organized the “2019 International Conference on HD Map for Autonomous Vehicles.” At the conference, Political Deputy Minister, Hua Ching-chun, said that this year, relevant industrial standards of high definition (HD) map have been completed. The HD map for autonomous vehicles is both the basis of autonomous driving and safety improvement. In the future, real-time kinematic (RTK) map will also be developed to strengthen development of Taiwan’s autonomous vehicles.
Political Minister Hua also praised the completion of relevant industrial standards of the HD map.
According to MOI, last year (2018) Legislative Yuan passed the “Unmanned Vehicles Technology Innovative Experimentation Act” to include the Unmanned Vehicle on the Road Program in emerging focus policies. This year, with the inter-ministerial cooperation among MOEA, MOST and the NDC, the R&D Program of Autonomous Vehicle Technology has been jointly carried out.
Over the past year, the MOI discussed relevant applications of the HD map such as the integrated vehicle map interface, AI smart mapping, integration of HD map and smart transport. In the future, the RTK map will be developed and inter-ministerial and inter-industrial cooperation will be facilitated to jointly create a smart world.
MOI pointed out that this year’s conference invited domestic experts and scholars from the government, academe and the industry. Incorporating with the New Southbound Policy, distinguished guests from the ASEAN and international manufacturers were also invited to share their opinions. More than 200 participants attended the conference to share and exchange research results on autonomous vehicles to help Taiwan upgrade its industry and develop its intellectual property rights.
