Fake News Again! Ministry of the Interior: 90% of Cross-strait Religious Exchanges are Approved without Trouble
A report published by the China Times on July 18 claimed that the government has banned cross-strait religious exchanges. The Ministry of the Interior indicated that among the religious exchange applications applied for by the people of the Mainland China Area in the past 3 years and got permission to come to Taiwan; 87.35%, 93.49%, and 94.08%, were approved in 2016, 2017, and 2018, respectively. The approval rate increased each year with the average approval percentage of over 90%. There is no religious exchange ban on mainland China, and the report is grossly inconsistent with the facts.
The Ministry of the Interior further indicated that the government supports religious freedom. The relevant authorities will review cases involving people of the Mainland China Area coming to Taiwan for professional and/or religious exchanges to ensure friendly, normal and orderly cross-strait exchanges.
