Countdown to “Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program”:531 Overstayers Were Caught During the NIA Second National Law Enforcement Operation.
National Immigration Agency (NIA) kept promoting the “Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program”(January 1st –June 30th, 2019) in the last 15 days. The program encourages overstayers self-report on one hand, and on the other hand, shows aggressive determination of illegal immigrants investigation by frequent law enforcement operations. On June 15th, 2019, NIA and other authorities, with all field officers, launched the second national law enforcement operation targeting foreigner hotspots, including construction sites, foreigner shops, restaurants, and other business establishments. 173 hotspots were investigated, 413 illegal foreigners and 118 illegal employers and agents were caught.
After the law enforcement operation in May, NIA and other authorities launched the second operation again today (June 15th, 2019). The 413 illegal foreigners caught in the operation consist mainly the Vietnamese (246) and the Indonesians (130). The major spots where illegal foreigners were caught were construction sites, restaurants, factories and foreign labor apartments.
Chiu, Feng-Kuang, Director-General of NIA announced:“Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program is due on June 30th, 2019. Overstayers should self-report in the last 15 days with reduced penalties. Once The Program is over, NIA will continue to conduct frequent and comprehensive investigations and promote law amendment for more severe penalties. We will show our determination to keep social security and strengthen law enforcement with an aim of decreasing the numbers of foreigners who overstayed in Taiwan. ”
