More Convenient Mountain Entry Permit Application by Logging on a Single Website Available before Summer

Here are some good news for you! The National Single Mountaineering Webpage of Taiwan is expected to be launched by the end of this June and those who would like to enter controlled mountain areas only need to log on this webpage to apply for the relevant convenient services of park, mountain, and mountain house entry permits. Furthermore, the Ministry of the Interior is also reviewing current controlled mountain routes and after the completion of instruction marks, controlled mountain areas will gradually be opened up to make them more accessible to the public.

Integrated Mountaineering Services Website Available by the End of June

The Ministry of the Interior said that at present mountaineering services are provided by different agencies. For example, the Construction and Planning Agency manages the national parks, the Forestry Bureau is in charge of national forest recreation areas and permits for building mountain houses and villas, and policies involved in mountain entry management. In order to provide mountain hikers more convenience, the government has initiated integrated cooperative operations and is expected to complete the construction of a single website that combines applications for mountain house buildings and national parks and mountain entry permits.

Bans to Mountains and Forests are Lifted; Abolishing Mountain Entry Permits

According to the Ministry of the Interior, although mountain entry permits are still required in mountain controlled areas regulated by the “National Security Act,” the amended draft after being negotiated with parties in the Legislative Yuan abolished relevant mountain control rules and now it enters the third reading procedure. After the amendment is completed, relevant measures of mountain control areas will be abolished.

For the Protection of National Park Ecology, Simple Applications are Required for Ecological Conservation Areas

The Ministry of the Interior also mentioned that in the future, the requirement of mountain entry permits will be cancelled but in consideration of ecological conservation and environmental loading, entries to ecological conservation areas of national parks will still require permits according to Article 19 of the “National Park Law” and there is a limitation on loading. Yet, for the convenient mountaineering needs, the procedure of applications will be simplified to the maximum degree.

Continuous Reviewing for Gradual Opening of Mountain Controlled Areas of National Parks

The Ministry of the Interior pointed out that in order to let the public enjoy safe and informative mountaineering trips at national parks, mountain controlled areas destroyed or disrupted by natural disasters will be quickly investigated with the assistance of high mountain national park administration staff or professional mountaineering groups to complete safety measures for marking them and these areas will be gradually opened for those with mountaineering experience and comprehensive devices for easier access to the mountains and forests.

Levels of Mountaineering Routes for the Best Preparation

The Ministry of the Interior also reminded the public about the risks of outdoor activities. Preparations for mountaineering is better than relief measures after accidents; if an accident occurs, the relevant governmental agencies will make their best effort to make the rescue. But to avoid the misuse of relief resources and to safeguard the safety of mountain hikers, some local governments have set up their own autonomous rules imposing penalties to those who violate the rules and if an accident occurs, the violators will have to pay for the use of relief resources.

The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that there are different levels for trails at high mountain national parks and different managerial principles are adopted. Users have to consider their own health conditions and equipment owned to choose the most suitable mountaineering paths for the best preparations in order to enjoy safe and informative mountaineering trips.
