Celebrate the Immigrants Day-The Multicultural Arts Festival

The annual celebration of the immigrants day was held on Dec. 6 at the Taipei Confucius Temple. In his speech, the Vice Minister of the Interior Chang-Yueh Chiu commended 11 cities and counties for their outstanding performance in providing caring and counseling services to foreign and Chinese spouses. After watching the talent shows of new immigrants, Chiu praised those new immigrants who have endeavored to establish their own business and achieved great results. "To value the new power of new immigrants" Chiu said, "We all should cherish their contributions to the families, society, and country."

This year's immigrants day focused on the presentation of talents and the power of new immigrants. Those who staged were gifted new immigrants and their children, including the Stars of Vietnam, Chen Ming-che's saxophone solo play, German Taiwanese Krystyna Jensen’s modern dance, mothers and children's singing in their mother tongue, and Hu-shin Choir's performance. Their presentation convinced the audience that the new immigrants are of good art talents.

The story gallery presented the top-class achievements of new immigrants, such as Li-Chan Lin - the winner of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons, Hui-ling Wang - the first new immigrant who became an immigration officer; Japanese spouse Satoru Kondo - the winner of Sony World Photography Award, and Jordanian Ala'a Kutkut - one of the 100 most powerful Arab Women. Among the others, the gallery also presents the life story of Dinh Thi Thuy - the first female trailer driver, Ye Sushan - the first female performer of Taiwanese puppet show, Mok Ai Fang - the best leading actress of Golden Bell Awards, Kyawk Dad-Yin - the director of Ice Poison, and Arelis Yoh Gabot- the first immigrant Neighborhood Chief in Taipei City. Those who established their own business, such as Juan Mei Lan, Xu Li, Park Juong Ok, Juan Huang Ying, and Hsiao Yi Ting, also shared their stories to inspire other new immigrants to fulfill their dreams.

Beitou natural percussion instruments program, invited by co-sponsor Taipei City's Department of Civil Affairs, performed at the event. The members brought hand-made instruments to play famous songs. Several District Offices of Taipei City also presented the handmade artifacts of new immigrants. Along with the other arrangements, the tour of the Confucius Temple guided by new immigrants exemplified the combination of Chinese tradition, multi-culture and tourism.

The National Immigration Agency indicated that this event was successful, and hoped local governments and civic groups constantly care about the new immigrants and their families, since a friendly environment can support new immigrants to lead a new life in their new homeland.
