Ministry of Interior: the “Youth Policy” of Mayor Han does not surpass existing policy scope
Mayor Han proposed 3 solutions of Youth Policy in his simulcast on August 28. The Ministry of Interior suggested that the ideas of “Independent Family Building Fund” and the “Cohabitation between the Older and Younger Generations” are indeed the policies of the government. Indeed, the government policy for helping the young people in accommodation for the time being is even better and perfect.
The “Allowance for interest of mortgage loan” and the “Home Buying Preferred Mortgage Loan for Young People” offered by the Ministry of Finance have been in place for years. These two options for offering preferential rate for mortgage loans and the credit limit between the two could also be matched when implemented. This helps the young people to mitigate their financial burden in home buying after setting up their own families, according to the Ministry of Interior.
As for the idea of “Cohabitation between the Older and Younger Generations,” the government has indeed advocated the full-fledged social housing program, according to the Ministry of Interior. This is the community for the “cohabitation of the older and the younger generations.” At the moment, about 13% of the lessees are the elderly while 30% are young people at the social housing communities across Taiwan. Lower levels were reserved for kindergartens, a site for the young people starting up a business, facilities for community welfare and caring of the elderly are also arranged. Through the hardware design and community event, the young people and the elderly could mingle naturally.
The Ministry of Interior emphasized that the administrative team has pro-actively pursued the housing policy in full-range immediately after President Tsai Ing-Wen has assumed office. Further to the construction of social housing for some 200,000 households, broadening of the scope of housing allowance and revitalizing the housing rental market, the government has also moved for the renovation and urban renewal program to bolster the safety of people in their accommodations. With the support of the omnibus residential policy, the fundamental problems of residence could be resolved in favor of all the people of Taiwan. In addition, young people will get full support to make their dreams come true, according to the Ministry of Interior.
