Comprehensive Anti-drug Battle MOI's Guidelines Work Effectively
The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) said the four guidelines drafted in accordance with the Executive Yuan's "New-Generation Anti-Drug Strategy" and announced in May 2017 were effectively implemented, and several serious drug trafficking cases were uncovered in the past months.

The four guidelines announced in May are namely "analyzing and monitoring drug trends, and mapping out specific strategies," "reinforcing cooperation between prosecutor's offices and the police to trace upstream criminals and suspects of big drug trafficking cases," "integrating border inspection resources," and "elevating cross-border anti-drug capacity."

On Oct. 28, 2017, Taiwan and Indonesian police forces jointly uncovered a big amphetamine trafficking case. The success of the international anti-drug action could be attributed to effective implementation of the guidelines of integrating border inspection resources and elevating cross-border anti-drug capacity. To block transnational drug smuggling, Taiwan police haves strengthened cooperation with global law enforcement agencies through its overseas liaison officers.

On Nov. 1, 2017, the police uncovered a site producing drug-laced instant coffee packets, after tracing drug trafficking flow to the upstream sources. Observing that the unique proportion emerging drugs were circulating at such entertainment places as nightclubs and bars in Taoyuan area, the police investigated and monitored to collect evidences, and a task force was formed under the command of the prosecutor's office to crack down the upstream drug packaging site.

On Nov. 4, 2017, the police uncovered the trafficking of 660 kilograms of chloroform ephedrine. The police action proved a successful implementation of the strategy of regional anti-drug alliance, with reinforced investigation and inspections at remote regions, mountainous areas and industrial roads with possible drug production hideouts.

The Ministry of the Interior stressed that anti-narcotics operation has been a focus of social stability work of the police. In addition to fully implementation of the four guidelines, law enforcement agencies will coordinate efforts of parents conferences of schools to propagate anti-drug education, cooperate with volunteer police and community security organizations to collect and report related information, and contact district office directors and community office chiefs to keep records and watch closely reported drug abuse issues. It is expected that through the coordinated efforts, narcotics will be eliminated and people's physical and mental health will be well protected.
