Interior Minister Yeh Commends Solid Training and Competitiveness of Central Police University
Presiding over the 81st founding anniversary of Central Police University on Sept. 1, Interior Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong lauded the solid training and competitiveness of the police university. He said that the ministry has continuously provided active support to police education.

Minister Yeh pointed out that the student enrollment of the police university's four-year bachelor degree program manifested the university's competitiveness, as 64% of the new students enrolled in School Year of 2017 were qualified to enter top universities in Taiwan, and 90% were capable to enter national universities.

Although local universities, in general, have felt the impact of declining birth rate, which has consequently posed difficulties for universities to recruit students, Central Police University has been able to attract fine young men and young women with a law and order career aspiration, while maintaining the high admission requirements, according to Minister Yeh.

Minister Yeh pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior has set aside extra budget for 2018 to Central Police University for the construction of a motor vehicle driving training ground and affiliated sports facilities of the police gymnasium, in order to further facilitate police education and to develop good law and order enforcement cadres.

He also affirmed the pioneer research projects applied by the police university, including using big data in police work and conducting research on police dogs in action.

At the celebration ceremony, six alumni were awarded the 14th Outstanding Alumni Award. They are namely Wang Lung, deputy director-general of the National Police Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, Hsiao Hsiang-tai, chief secretary of the Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Justice, Liu Po-liang, commissioner of the Criminal Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of the Interior, Huang Chun Tang, director of the Agency of Corrections under the Ministry of Justice, Hsieh Ching-hsu, deputy director-general of the National Fire Agency under the Ministry of the Interior, and Chiang Ching-hsing, chairman of the Nankang Rubber Tire Corp., Ltd.

To celebrate the founding anniversary, Central Police University presented two exhibitions, "Kang Muxiang's Steel Cable Sculptures and Wooden Sculptures Exhibition" and "A 40-Year Historical Review Since Moving to Guishan, Taoyuan County."

According to the Ministry of the Interior, Kang's wooden sculpture series "Born in the Same Root", nine pieces of work out of one wood trunk, signifies "respect", "tolerance" ,"cooperation", and "solidarity", and it inspires the spirit of cherishing each other and solidarity. The steel cable sculpture series "Path to Life", quenched entangled extended steel cable signifies perseverance, a spirit demonstrated by law and order enforcers.

"Nurture", a creation of 89 kilometer-long entangled steel cable, was premiered on occasion of Central Police University's anniversary, and this magnificent work signifying the purpose of educating law and order enforcement cadres will become the university's art collection.

The exhibition, "A 40-year Historical Review Since Moving to Guishan, Taoyuan County", tells the development of Central Police University since it was moved from Taipei City to Taoyuan County in 1977, remembering the hardship of predecessors to build the school and encouraging the next generations.
