Philippine Catholic nun given Taiwan citizenship
Administrative Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior, Chiu Chang-yueh (邱昌嶽) and Chiayi County Magistrate Chang Hwa-kuan (張花冠) attended the ceremony held at Catholic Mindao Home in Chiayi on Aug. 4 to present the Nationality Permit Certificate and ROC identification card to Catholic nun O Anuna (滿詠萱) from the Philippines for her lifelong dedication to the disabilities and underprivileged groups in Chiayi County. Since the Nationality Act amendment in 2016, Anuna has been the first foreign national with special contributions to Taiwan in Chiayi County to obtain the ROC citizenship without having to renounce her original citizenship

Administrative Deputy Minister Chiu noted that Anuna first came to Taiwan in 1990 to serve at Sacred Heart Home, a Catholic charitable organization based in Dongshih Township of Chiayi County. As a pharmacist, she worked day and night taking care of children with disabilities. Even though some of them couldn’t talk, Anuna still provided them with care and attention as much as possible. In 2014, Anuna was transferred to Mindao Home for taking care of people with severe disabilities; in addition, Anuan helps foreign spouses in the coastal areas improve their family communications and adapt to life in Taiwan. Anuan has made a great role model with her long-term service and persistent dedication to promoting understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities, it is a blessing to have her in Taiwan.

In At the end of the ceremony, Deputy Minister Chiu again expressed his gratitude and admiration for Anuan’s love that brings warmth to Taiwan and its people. Chiu hopes that by advocating Anuan’s achievements more would be encouraged to bring love to every corner of Taiwan.
