On January 16 and 18, 2023 respectively, Acting Minister of the Ministry of the Interior Hua Ching-Chun and Deputy Minister Chen Tsung-yen went to Zhongshan District, Taipei City and Zhongli District, Taoyuan City to express care and concerns to Mr. Lai and Mr. Wu who are veterans and injured during conscripted military service. Ministers Hua and Chen gave Mr. Lai and Mr. Wu pensions and relief for Lunar New Year holidays to show their consideration and at the same time expressed admiration to those warm-hearted by the Substitute Services Draftees who provide daily living assistance to Mr. Lai and Wu with strong brotherhood.
Mr. Lai visited on January 16 was injured on duty and became blind during his conscripted military service in Kinmen in 1969. He was taken care by foreign caregiver in daily life. Mr. Wu visited on January 18 fell during military training and became semi-paralyzed in 1989. He felt more cheerful and optimistic after having assistance for daily living and medical treatment and being accompanied with Substitute Services Draftees. Therefore, his family members are much relieved.
To encourage injured veterans to move on and have a new start of their lives and stay in frequent contact with people, the National Conscription Agency will continue to hold regional forums and social activities in the north, central, south and east regions respectively in 2023. Veterans and their families are invited to activities. We hope these injured veterans feel warm and receive appropriate care from the love of Substitute Services Draftees and kind intention of the government.
