Watch out for safety, as there are inherent risks in water activities

  • PostDate:2021-05-11 14:44

It is getting hotter these days. A tragedy occurred yesterday as two people drowned where water activities are prohibited. For your safety, National Fire Agency urges all citizens to choose a safe place for summer water activities.

From May 1st to 9th 2021, the statistics show that fire departments have performed 16 missions, including 7 floating bodies, 5 suicides, 1 diving accident, 1 person falling into water, 1 rescue and 1 water activity accident, on 17 victims. 12 died and 5 were rescued. These accidents occurred at places like rivers, streams (including waterfalls), beaches, fishing ports, ponds, water channels and trenches. 3 were lost during water or diving activities. For this, NFA advises all citizens to watch for risks and their own safety during activities in potentially dangerous waters in order to prevent tragic accidents.

For the selection of places that are safe for water activities, useful information is available at Tourism Bureau MOTC webpage at https://tinyurl.com/yd6z962a or water area information webpage at iPlay Portal of Sports Administration MOE at https://iplay.sa.gov.tw/Dangerouswater. Finally, all citizens are advised against going to waters where drowning is frequent or engaging in highly dangerous water activities. Choose a swimming pool or water area where lifeguards  are on duty.
