Taiwan will officially enter a super-aged society. In the face of the dual challenges of population aging and declining birth rates, aging in place has become the core direction of the nation’s long-term care policy. To enable older adults to age safely and comfortably within their familiar living environments, the integrated design of residential spaces and assistive devices has emerged as a critical issue.

This symposium will focus on the integrated application of age-friendly housing design and assistive equipment. Drawing on Japan’s long-term care field experience, it will explore the application and design principles of assistive devices in home environments. It will also analyze future trends in the planning of residential infrastructure and assistive equipment in a super-aged society, and further examine holistic strategies for integrating age-friendly home design with assistive devices. The aim is to provide concrete references for Taiwan’s policy-making and implementation in promoting local aging-in-place initiatives.

Through the sharing of practical experience and policy analysis, the symposium seeks to foster understanding and cross-sector collaboration among industry, government, and academia regarding the integration of age-friendly housing and assistive devices. It aspires to inject new perspectives into the development of residential quality and welfare spaces for older adults, and to better prepare for the arrival of a super-aged society.

The symposium will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and we sincerely invite the participation of academic institutions and scholars researching the living environments of older adults; professionals and practitioners engaged in improving home environments for older adults; organizations and personnel involved in health and care services for the elderly; as well as graduate and undergraduate students interested in residential infrastructure and assistive device planning for older adults.
