People who do not want to have their “abnormal faces” shown on their new ID cards have their wish granted.

The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement yesterday those whose faces “do not appear normal” do not have to have their “natural pictures” shown on the new ID cards. Such people include those born with some deformity or given plastic surgery that does not restore fully their marred faces. All they have to do, the statement said, is to have their “natural pictures” attached to their applications, which should be accompanied by an official certificate for the deformity. No pictures will appear on their new ID cards, the Interior Ministry assured.

In addition, those people who have small ears are allowed to let their hair cover the little lobes up, the Interior Ministry said. The allowance was made after small-eared people had protested. They did so after a bearded entertainer had successfully kept his sideburns plus goatee. Chang Fei, the popular entertainer, complained early last month the authorities wanted him to shave the beard when he applied for a new ID card. The beard is his role symbol, Chang said. He could not give up that symbol, he told the authorities. The Interior Ministry let the entertainer keep his symbol. The portrait in his new ID card shows him with his beard.
