Enjoy Fast and Convenient Clearance with the New Generation e-Gate This Summer

The summer travel season is in full swing, and international airports across Taiwan are experiencing high volumes of outbound travelers. The National Immigration Agency (NIA) reminds travelers to check the validity of their passports and visas before departure. For faster and more efficient immigration processing, travelers are encouraged to use the new generation e-Gate system. The new e-Gate offers an intuitive and user-friendly experience, integrating both on-site registration and clearance into a single process. Travelers can register their facial image—and optionally their fingerprints—right at the gate, enabling simultaneous registration and immigration clearance. R.O.C. nationals who are at least 10 years old, 120 cm or taller, and hold a valid biometric passport are eligible to apply. Clearance can be completed in as little as 10 seconds, providing a fast and seamless experience powered by advanced technology.

Michael LIN, Acting Commander of the Border Affairs Corps, stated that to improve immigration services, the NIA is actively upgrading e-Gate systems at all major airports and seaports. Taoyuan International Airport—the country’s main international gateway—completed the installation of 49 new-generation e-Gates by the end of 2024. This year, similar upgrades have been completed at Kaohsiung, Songshan, and Taichung airports, allowing travelers throughout northern, central, and southern Taiwan to benefit from enhanced clearance efficiency.

With many international tourists expected to visit Taiwan this summer, the NIA has also introduced a redesigned Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) interface, launched on May 5, 2025. The updated platform is more intuitive and user-friendly, offering a streamlined application process along with features such as post-submission review and edits. Travelers can upload a photo of their passport's biodata page to automatically populate personal information. An email verification is required before submission, and upon completion, a confirmation receipt is sent directly to the registered email. The NIA reminds all inbound travelers that starting October 1, 2025, online submission of the TWAC will be mandatory. Paper forms will no longer be accepted. Travelers must complete the TWAC via the official NIA website within three days prior to arrival in Taiwan to ensure a faster and smoother immigration process.
