The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) and the Ministry of Justice jointly held the "2025 Award Ceremony for Outstanding Mediation Personnel Recognized with Central Government Awards" today (the 21st). Secretary-General to the Executive Yuan Chang Tun-han, Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang, and Minister of Justice Cheng Ming-chien attended the ceremony to present the awards and commended mediation committee members for their long-standing contributions to helping the public resolve disputes. Minister Liu noted that mediation performance has continued to improve in recent years: in 2025, a total of 140,694 mediation cases were accepted nationwide, of which 117,664 were successfully resolved, bringing the resolution rate to a record high of 83.63%.
The MOI further reported that among the cases successfully resolved in 2025, criminal cases were dominated by traffic accident injuries, with roughly 68,000 such cases resolved, while civil cases were led by debt disputes, with approximately 28,000 resolved. Together these two categories accounted for 82% of all successfully resolved cases, underscoring that the mediation system has become one of the public's most trusted channels for settling everyday disputes.
According to the MOI, 184 individuals received awards at this year's ceremony, including 28 senior mediators with 30 or more years of service, 38 with 20 or more years, and 44 with 16 or more years. Notable award recipients this year include Kuo Wen-pao, a veteran mediator with 39 years of service who received the Presidential Award, and Chen Ta-chi, a sole mediator from Changhua County who has received the Premier's Award for "Outstanding Sole Mediator" for 20 consecutive years — handling an average of more than 500 cases per year in recent years, a testament to his sustained dedication and professionalism.
The MOI stated that the mediation system combines legal expertise with interpersonal communication, making it an indispensable grassroots mechanism for resolving civil disputes. The Ministry will continue working with the Ministry of Justice and local governments to refine mediation administrative procedures and related regulations, and to help mediation committee members safeguard the lawful rights and interests of both parties. The Ministry also extended its gratitude once again to mediators nationwide for their professionalism, patience, and sincere dedication, which foster greater understanding and tolerance in society and help maintain a harmonious and stable way of life.
