Consumers' Foundation to make international appeal on beef issue |

Taipei, Oct. 27 (CNA) The Consumers' Foundation suggested Tuesday that a recent agreement that Taiwan will relax restrictions on beef imports from the United States remains merely a protocol and is not legally binding, and said it plans to make an international appeal to have Washington and Taipei renegotiate the case.
Wu Chia-cheng, secretary-general of the Consumers' Foundation, called on lawmakers and the public to boycott U.S. beef to force the government to reverse its beef import policy.
Noting the grave consequences of consuming beef contaminated with bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, Wu said the Consumers' Foundation might appeal to Consumers International in the hope that this will pressure Washington and Taipei into reversing the decision, which he described as unrighteous.
