The Government lowers language proficiency requirement for naturalization
The government, on June 3, 2017 promulgated the revised Standards for Identification of Basic Language Abilities and General Knowledge of the Rights and Duties of Naturalized R.O.C. Citizens. Foreign spouses who: were divorced due to domestic violence and are not remarried or; whose ROC national spouses had passed away, are not remarried and can provide proofs that he/she continued to interact with the family of the deceased spouse or the marriage had lasted for more than 2 years or; he/she continues to provide for, or has the legal obligations, or interacts with their minor children, their language and knowledge requirements for naturalization have been lowered. For instance, classroom attendance requirement at local government run educational programs has been reduced from 200 to 72 hours; passing mark for naturalization examination has been lowered from 70 to 60.

Regulations regarding the Nationality Act can be found at the website of the Department of Household Registration of the Ministry of the Interior (http://www.ris.gov.tw) or acquired through contacts with city and county household registration offices.
